Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)

Tanım ve Amacı

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, is a surgical procedure aimed at improving the shape, size, and proportions of the nose. This surgery can be performed for aesthetic purposes, such as refining the appearance of the nose, as well as for functional reasons, like correcting congenital nasal deformities, repairing injuries, or resolving breathing issues.

Types of Rhinoplasty

  1. Cosmetic Rhinoplasty: This type of rhinoplasty focuses on enhancing the aesthetic appearance of the nose. It addresses factors like the size, shape, and position of the nose, including the nasal tip and nostrils.

  2. Functional Rhinoplasty: This type aims to correct internal nasal structures, such as a deviated septum, to improve breathing and alleviate nasal obstruction.

  3. Reconstructive Rhinoplasty: Performed to restore the nose’s appearance and function after trauma, injury, or surgeries like cancer removal.

Prosedür

Rhinoplasty surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia and takes about 2.5 to 3 hours. The procedure includes the following steps:

  1. Preparation: The patient’s expectations and nasal anatomy are assessed before surgery. The surgical plan is customized according to the patient’s needs.

  2. Anesthesia: General anesthesia is administered.

  3. Incisions: Small incisions are made inside the nostrils, or in some cases, externally at the base of the nose. The location of the incisions depends on the complexity of the surgery.

  4. Reshaping: The nasal bridge is smoothed, the nasal tip is refined and lifted, and the nostrils are made more symmetrical. Necessary adjustments to the cartilage and bone structure are made to achieve the desired results.

  5. Closure: The incisions are carefully closed, and a nasal splint is applied to support the new shape during the healing process.

Types of Rhinoplasty Techniques

Open Rhinoplasty:

  • Incision Details: In open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made on the skin between the nostrils at the base of the nose. This incision allows the surgeon to lift the skin and gain a full view of the nasal structures, facilitating complex adjustments.
  • Advantages: Provides a broader view, making it suitable for complex cases requiring significant changes to the nasal structure. Offers greater precision in achieving symmetry and detail.

Closed Rhinoplasty:

  • Incision Details: Closed rhinoplasty involves incisions made inside the nostrils, leaving no visible external scars. This technique allows access to the nasal structures while keeping the incisions hidden.
  • Advantages: No visible scarring, faster recovery time, less swelling, and quicker healing compared to open rhinoplasty.
İyileşme Süreci

The recovery period after rhinoplasty varies from person to person, but generally follows these steps:

  • First Week: Swelling, bruising, and mild pain around the nose and eyes are common. Keeping the head elevated and applying cold compresses as instructed by your doctor can help reduce these symptoms. Nasal splints and internal supports may be removed.

  • One Month: Swelling and bruising significantly decrease. However, the nose may still be sensitive, and heavy physical activities should be avoided.

  • 3-6 Months: The shape of the nose becomes more defined, with most of the swelling subsiding. The final results start to become visible.

  • 1 Year: The nose is fully healed, and the final shape is established.
